International Eye Science (IES) is an international ophthalmic academic journal with both Chinese and English articles, developed under the guidance and support of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. It is sponsored by the Chinese Medical Association Xi’an Branch and supervised by the Shaanxi Provincial Health Commission. China Standard Serial Number are ISSN 1672?5123, CN 61?1419/R. Four presidents of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), together with Academician Fan Daiming, former Vice?President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, have served successively as General Advisor or Co?Editor?in?Chief of the journal. Academician Xie Lixin, Honorary Chairman of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and Professor Wu Lezheng, President of the Afro?Asian Council of Ophthalmology, hold the position of Honorary Editors?in?Chief. According to the statistical indicators released in the 2025 Chinese S&T Journal Citation Reports (Core Edition) compiled and published by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, International Eye Science (IES) has a core total citation frequency of 2278, a comprehensive evaluation score of 75.3, and a core impact factor of 1.067. Among the included ophthalmic core journals, it ranks first in both core total citation frequency and comprehensive evaluation score, and second in core impact factor. Among the 2204 journals of the natural?science edition, our journal ranks 98th in terms of comprehensive evaluation score, making it one of the national top?100 journals. The Articles in English column is a featured section of IES. The proportion of overseas?sourced papers has ranked first among domestic ophthalmic journals for many consecutive years. Rooted in China and oriented to the world, the journal welcomes manuscripts of basic and clinical research in ophthalmology, related disciplines, and interdisciplinary fields. It is committed to developing a high?quality Chinese?language ophthalmic academic journal with international features.

1.        Chinese Manuscript Submission

Please log in to the Author Login panel to submit your manuscript. If you are a first-time user, please register a new account by following the on-screen instructions, and then submit your manuscript through the online submission system. We recommend downloading the Copyright License Agreement of International Eye Sci from the Guide for Authors or Download Center on the website, upon completion of signature and official seal, please upload the document together with your manuscript to the system. If you require expedited processing, mark “Expedited” in the remarks section during submission. 2. Submission Requirements and Format

1) Prior to submission, carefully read the journal’s Call for Papers, Rules for the Preparation of Academic Papers, the Guoji Yanke Zazhi (Int Eye Sci) data management policy, and the Notice on standardized application of generative AI tools. In the initially uploaded manuscript, list all authors and the affiliated institutions, together with brief biographies of the first and corresponding authors, including professional titles, positions, research directions, and emails.

2) If the manuscript is supported by a funding project, please upload the funding documents together with the Copyright License Agreement to the system at the time of submission.

3) For manuscripts submitted by current graduate students, the supervisor must conduct prior review and list as the corresponding author.

4) The author order and corresponding author information stated in the Copyright License Agreement must be consistent with those in the manuscript. After submission of the manuscript, any requests to adjust authorship, including the author order, any authors being added or removed, should be accompanied by a new Copyright License Agreement (bearing the signatures of all authors and the institutional seal). Please note that the first author cannot be changed after the manuscript has been submitted.

5) Prior to typesetting and printing, the editor will send the final version to authors for confirmation. All authors should carefully read and review the final manuscript, and verify the following items: article title, authors’ names, authors’ order, and affiliated institutions, funding project names and numbers, main text, figures and their captions, tables and table notes, in-text citation order, and reference formatting at the end of the manuscript. All authors are kindly requested to verify this final version prior to publication.

6) DOI number or URL should be provided for each reference. For specific formatting instructions, please refer to the Call for Papers.

3.      Academic Misconduct Screening

CNKI (http://www.cnki.net) and Crossref Similarity Check (powered by iThenticate) are used for manuscript similarity screening. We will investigate any suspicious issues. If plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct are confirmed, the manuscript will be rejected. If academic misconduct is confirmed after publication, the article will be retracted, and the authors’ affiliated institutions will be notified.

4.      Publication Ethics Statement

Publication ethics follow the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors [Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)]. For research data involving human or animal in manuscripts, formal review and approval by a recognized Institutional Review Board or Ethics Committee are required. Research involving human participants must comply with the principles outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki, and relevant details should be stated in the “Participants and Methods” section. For treatment protocols involving clinical patients, informed consent must be obtained from patients and stated in the manuscript.

5. Manuscript Status

Two methods are available for checking the status of your manuscript:

1) Log in to the author center to check;

2) Check your email inbox.

6. Review Process

To improve manuscript quality, 80% of the submitted manuscripts will undergo a double-blind peer-review process. The review process is approximately three months: around one week for the first review by editor, approximately two months for peer review, and about two weeks for final review. The publication process is within six months. Manuscripts supported by any fund projects and those submitted with expedited review requests will be processed as soon as possible and given priority.

7. Green Channel

Manuscripts supported by national, provincial or ministerial-level fund projects will be processed as expedited submissions. For other manuscripts requesting expedited review, please state the requirements in the remarks column upon initial submission. We will facilitate the process through the green channel where possible.

8. Complimentary Printed Copies

In accordance with the journal’s policy, we will provide one copy of the current issue to the first author and the corresponding author respectively. Copies are generally posted in the middle of the publication month and will be received by the end of the month. If authors do not receive their copies, please contact the editorial office promptly (preferably within one month after the issue is published) and we will arrange a re-delivery. To prevent loss during postal delivery, re-delivery will be made via express delivery at the author’s own expense. When contacting us, please be sure to provide your detailed mailing address and phone number.

9. Publication Policy

Article Processing Charge (APC) for accepted manuscripts is necessary, and no additional fees will be charged beyond that. Full texts of all articles will be freely accessible on our official website.

10. Notes on Invoices

As per the journal’s policy, the invoice title is generally the affiliation of the first author. If there is any change to the invoice title, authors are required to confirm the invoice title upon receiving the acceptance notification and update the first author’s affiliation information in the system, or notify the editorial office by email or phone. After completing the payment, please log in to the system, upload the remittance receipt on the page for page charge registration, and fill in accurate information including the name, taxpayer identification number, address, phone number, bank name, and account number for invoicing issuance. Electronic invoices will be issued at the end of the month and sent to the author’s email. If authors require an invoice to be issued in advance, please contact us and we will process it as soon as possible.
