Conjunctival papilloma is a benign and epithelial tumour,it can be classified into conjunctiva type and limbus type depending on its site.Compared to the limbus type which is common in middle-aged people the conjunctiva type which usually occurs in children or adolesents is more common. The hyperplasia of conjunctival papilloma may leads to conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma.Conjunctival papilloma can be of viral origin(human papilloma virus,HPV),which is also related to conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma,so it is very important to detect HPV in patients for treatment and follow-up.The common treatment of conjunctival papilloma is sugical excision, but simple treatment is associated with high recurrence rate.Several types of therapy have been described, including liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, cauterization, cytotoxic drug and interferon. We report a case of recurrent limbus-based papilloma treated successfully with combined therapy.

AIM:To explore the distribution and growth of research articles on cataract, providing bibliometric information for cataract researchers.METHODS:Research articles on cataract published in PubMed from 1813 to 2010 were analyzed by bibliometric method.Distribution of No.of articles by time, characteristics of journals, language, type of article, vice mesh, characteristics of subjects, full articles and accessibility were statistically analyzed.RESULTS:During 1813-2010,there were 45868 cataract research literatures in the PubMed database.According to PubMed database literature type, they were categorized as follow:Review(n=2957),Randomized Controlled Trial(n=1890),Practice Guideline(n=22),Meta-Analysis(n=62),Letter(n=2142),Editorial(n=505),Clinical Trial(n=2897),Others(n=35767);MEDLINE(n=43838) and Others(n=2030);Nursing journals(n=457),Core clinical journals(n=4093),Others(n=41318);Man(n=18527),Woman(n=17837),Others(n=9504);Humans(n=36577),Animals(n=6015),Others(n=3290);Infant(n=3144),Child(n=5386),Adolescent(n=4392),Adult(n=10485),Aged(n=18649),80 and over(n=5993);Links to full text(n=23616),Links to free full text(n=6575),Abstracts(n=28682).From 1946 to 2010,the number of literatures by year approximated straight line(Y =598.71X-689.92,R2=0.9746).Chinese cataract literatures in PubMed appeared in 1946,and increased obviously since 1961.The cataract literatures is primarily in English(34655,75.6%),Chinese publication literatures arranged at 7th(732,1.59%).10299 literatures(23%) were retrieved in 22 journals on ophthalmology(SCI-indexed).CONCLUSION:Our results showed that cataract research was conducted at early time, but it is not a hot topic until 1960s of last century.Cataract research is still a focus by now, which is evidenced by the linear growth of the number of articles.

AIM:To determine the growth rule and trendency of the glaucoma literature by bibliometric analysis.METHODS:Logging in www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed,"glaucoma" was used to retrieve from 1858-01-01 to 2010-12-31 literature volume, meanwhile, literature volume(amount of every five years for a time period),Chinese collected, language distribution, document type distribution, journal distribution, and related research content in a database were retrieved, according to the theory of increasing law of the literature, the data retrieved were analysed.RESULTS:From 1858 to 2010,PubMed database included 45514 articles of glaucoma literature, all the cumulative literature volume was increasing year by year, the equation was approximate line(Y =579.34X-568.38,R2=0.882).1858-2010 glaucoma literature was dominated in English(71.50%),literature volume published in Chinese was ranked in the twelveth(0.31%),PubMed began to include Chinese glaucoma literature in 2006,which increased dramatically after 2009 years.According to the PubMed database literature types,it included Clinical Trial(2947 articles),Editorial(648 articles),Letter(1727 articles),Meta-Analysis(81 articles),Practice Guideline(15 articles),Randomized Controlled Trial(1787),Review(3633 articles),Others(34678 articles);glaucoma literature included according to Journal Groups were divided into Core Clinical Journals(625 articles),Dental Journals(5 articles),Nursing Journals(42 articles),Others(44844 articles);37194 articles were related with Humans,Animals related literatures were 4223 articles,Others 4099.Nineteen kinds of glaucoma core journal in PubMed included 20526 articles(45.10% collected literature).CONCLUSION:The amount of research articles about glaucoma shows ascendant trend, indicating that glaucoma is still a hot tissue, the main factors of the influence on glaucoma literature growth is the environmental conditions of subject development.

Diabetic retinopathy(DR) is the most common diabetic eye disease and a leading cause of blindness in adults. It is caused by changes in the blood vessels of the retina. In some people with DR,blood vessels may swell and leak fluid. In other people, abnormal new blood vessels grow on the surface of the retina. The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.A healthy retina is necessary for good vision. The following are very important for preventing DR and several procedures or laser eye surgery or vitrectomy are the main treatments. To truly recognize and understand the DR classification and international clinical DR severity scale helps to treat, and can catch problems early. There are many ways to make DR classification and severity scale. This paper is summarized and compared with some famous international institutions for DR clinical research content and conclusion.
